Rosewood Essential Oil...

The Rosewood tree, which Brazil is famous for, are giant evergreen trees bearing the scientific name Aniba Rosaeaodora. Rosewood is highly prized as a decorative wood and millions of hectares of rosewood forests have been cut down for making furniture, show pieces, and even chopsticks. Rosewood essential oil is extracted from the woody matter of the Rosewood tree with the help of steam distillation.

This Brazilian evergreen tree can grow up to 40 meters (125 feet) high and has a reddish bark and yellow flowers and is extensively felled in the South American rain forest, but now legislation requires distilleries to plant a new tree for each tree cut down. The wood is used for building, French cabinet making and carving for the production of chopsticks in Japan and of course, essential oil.

Rosewood essential oil, like many of the essential oils, is a unique healing agent. Rosewood has a beautifully warm, floral fragrance, with a hint of sweet spice. It is an anti-depressant, and antiseptic, aphrodisiac, anti-bacterial, insecticide, and stimulant. Rosewood is used as an aromatic to balance the body and mind.

For the mind and nerves, rosewood essential oil is an effective therapy for stress and exhaustion. When burned or steamed, the molecules that are released are picked up by the olfactory nerves, which then stimulate brain waves. It has an uplifting, rejuvenating effect, making it a natural way to improve your spirits when you are feeling overwhelmed or worn down. It is also useful to treat PMS or menopausal related mood swings, stress-related headaches and nausea.

Rosewood essential oil is also an aphrodisiac. In aromatherapy it is used to treat impotence and frigidity by stimulating the body to relax, and strengthening the spirit. Either use as a vapor therapy, or make a bath with rosewood oil. All essential oils are highly concentrated, so always dilute them before external use, and never use them internally.
